When did you write your first "Fanfiction" piece? What was it for?

I did a lot in fits and starts; my first completed fanfic piece was "Moonwalk".

Did you actually post it anywhere?

To the Buffy Cross and Stake board, and then later, to fanfiction.net.

What series have you written fanfics for? (both posted stories, and non-posted stories)

Lessee.

Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Farscape, Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica (2003), and if you want to really stretch it, Dragnet. *g*

I had scraps here and there from Star Trek, Star Wars, and I don't remember what others.

Any Original Characters (ones that got named) that you had inhabit the series universes? If so - who/where? (yes, this is where we embarrass you by revealing your dark secrets!)

I put together a fellow by the name of Jack Griffin, sort of spun from what little I knew of X-Men; I originally just called him "Wraith". He had the ability to manipulate the four quantum forces, with myriad interesting results; he also had a laundry-list of psychological problems, and would have made a psychiatrist a rich man except that he was also poor as a church mouse. (He also roomed with church mice, being a disillusioned Jesuit who'd had thoughts of going into the priesthood.)

I kind of worked on him as a stand-alone character for a while, then decided to rope him into an "Angel" adventure - throwing him into the summer between first and second season. I justified it in my own mind by saying this was going to be a one-shot deal, that after one encounter with the Fang Gang, my OC would be on the phone trying to get the earliest flight out of LAX and as far the frell away from the City of Angels as he could...

I posted half of it on ff.net, someone asked me if I was doing a crossover of some sort, and I came to my senses and decided to yank it. Maybe someday I'll have a go at finishing it. I figure an OC with an acid personality isn't that likely to be a Mary Sue.

If you had the chance to have the original creator turn any of your fanfic into an actual piece, which story would you choose?

Hm. This is a tough one, lemme think about that a few ---

"Scarab". Oh hell yeah. I want to see if I managed to pull off the whole "Aliens" vibe I was trying for in "Live Free or Die"; I want to see Jack's reaction to his first vampire; Buffy's ballet-like fighting style contrasted with Teal'c's raw power and Carter's tooth-and-nail hand-to-hand technique; bringing back Riley, Tara, and Larry ...

Except that it would mean getting two sets of creators onto the same page, and the odds of that are less than me hitting the New Jersey lottery and finding Miss Right all in the same day. Le sigh.

Do you have any weird music quirks that help you write?

Not as such. Music or no, pretty much on an as-needed basis, I suppose.

What are common "themes" you hide in your stories?

Most of 'em are hidden away so well that I don't know what they are. But I suppose there's a common thread of people not being what you expect from just observing them. I've done that with Jayne, Inara, Spike, and I don't know which others.

What are your favorite characters to write POV's from?

Jayne Cobb. Inara Serra. Jack O'Neill. Anyanka was fun, too.

What story of yours do you wish more people would read and love?

Toss-up between "Moonwalk" and "The Carton". "Moonwalk" holds a special place in my heart because it was my first true fanfic, and I'm just damn proud of "The Carton".

If you could pick a specific scene of your story to be made into a comic-book/doujinshi format, what scene from what fanfic would you pick?

Tara summoning the lightning from "The Scarab". Xander's speech while field-stripping one of SG-1's weapons is one of my favorites, but it wouldn't translate to the format, I'm afraid.

And last but not least - Why do you like writing fanfiction?

I think of it as a way of stretching my muscles. I've always wanted to write original work - I've got one big story I've been trying to get to work right for twenty years - and writing untold stories in an established canon (for that's what my fanfic tends to be, mostly) is good exercise, and a good way to make sure you know what you're doing. 'Cos with the company I keep these days? I need to stay on my toes. The f-list won't let me slide.
