Legal term (I'm up to my armpits in legal terms today) for when someone is entrusted with the money and/or assets of another, to manage for the benefit of that other. That's what they call a fiduciary duty. The breach doesn't have to be self-centered, even, if I recall right; doing something venal or bone-stupid is enough.

Oddly enough, when perusing the front page of the New York Times the past few days, this particular legal term keeps coming up. Gee, wonder why?

Ah well. Back to the real world.

Weather's actually cleared up a lot. The snow's still piled up to the hips and above, but the ice is gone, the temp's up near 50 degrees ... wow. Was out in shirtsleeves searching car for checkbook, wading through snow. Well, actually not wading; the driveway's been cleared up enough to avoid that.

Oh, and whoever launched that denial-of-service attack on livejournal should be boiled in oil. Or forced to listen to four months' worth of lectures on conflicts of laws from the guy who was supposed to teach it to me last spring. And then write a 15-page paper on it afterwards.

Actually, on second thought, boiling in oil would be less cruel.
