Did my last set of practice essays for the bar - the ones that if you get 'em half right, you're doing well enough to become a lawyer. Hopefully I got 'em a little more than half right.
Tomorrow is my off day - I'm resting. I need it. Monday comes the travel day, in which I travel ... lessee ... 145.82 miles, which should take me 2 hours 27 minutes, according to the directions I downloaded from Mapquest onto my PDA.
Speaking of which ...
The PDA is now connecting to a shiny new laptop which came for my birthday - something I needed but felt was too extravagant, something I figured I'd save up for and buy after I got established in a new job. Well, I'm typing on it now. *g*
When I was setting it up, it asked me what I wanted to call it. Up to now, I've just been naming computers on this local network with mundane names, either for the person who uses it, or if that's not available, its model number or its function. I suppose I don't have enough imagination to be a sysadmin.
Until now, anyway. I have dubbed the new laptop Cortana, and I hope it will serve me well. When the time comes to establish a home network of my very own, I may indulge in more creativity.
So, the meme: I recall asking
celli why she had picked a particular name for her computer, and over the days, I've noted that a lot of people have chosen cute names for their various bits of technology. I guess LJ attracts geeks.
So ... the meme: have you given a pet name to a possession of any sort (computer, car, stove, item I don't want to know about from the back of the Sharper Image Catalog), what is it (if you feel like sharing), and what does it mean?
("Cortana", by the way, was an artificial intelligence in the game "Halo".)
Close entry.

Date: 2004-02-21 09:20 pm (UTC)In a similar vein the new computer from last year plus some is Aeryn, whereas the much more recent (used) laptop is Kaylee. :)
However Aeryn turned out to be particularly heat-sensitive and fried a whole hard drive before I realized what was happening. The moral: Never name temperature-sensitive equipment after a Sebacean!
