Update

Eighty percent packed, I think, for the Big Trip. Going to pause, head out to Paramus (little known fact: "Paramus" is from the Ramapo Indian term for "five shopping malls that ganged up and got themselves a ZIP Code") to finally catch Pirates of the Caribbean. (I think that's how it's spelled.)

I leave the populace with a question: in the widely panned movie "Battlefield Earth", was the hero a Mary Sue? (I ask, not expecting an answer, because that would mean that someone who reads this journal saw the movie, and I hope that people who read this journal have better taste than that...)

I saw it.

It was on television, and since I'd read the (highly amusing) reviews, I just couldn't stop myself from watching. It was like a car wreck. *Everything* about it was . . . bad! The writing, the directing, that acting, everything. Especially John Travolta's codpiece.

As for the hero, I'm always reluctant to place the Sue label on a canon character. To me, a Sue is always an intruder who takes the emphasis off of the canon characters and places it on him/herself. So no, I don't think he was a Stu; he was merely annoying.
