War zone

And it's gotten bad again. General strike got called for today - most of us in the office here went to work. You know, because clients don't stop needing help because the labor unions call a general strike.

Well, there was a march on Panepistimiou (Eleftheriou Venizelou) Street. As of 1:45PM EET, it's less of a march and more of an exchange of fire.

Protestors have been throwing Molotov cocktails. Again.

Cops have been responding with concussion grenades and tear gas. Again.

A bit of tear gas has reached us on the 6th floor.

And since we're in the middle of the fire zone, we can't really evacuate.

As of 1:55pm EET, things have died down.

We'll have to see what happens next.

Calmer now, thankfully. We ended up not evacuating after all.

It's been calm for a few hours now, thankfully. I just hope it doesn't start up again when we're getting ready to break and head home...

::hugs:: flush your eyes and clean the skin with cool water, if the tear gas is still bugging you. I've texted a friend familiar with protests to see if he knows a good remedy.

Thanks! It's OK at the moment; someone actually dug up a candle to try to help burn off the tear gas, and there wasn't much anyway. (We're officially on the sixth floor, but in the US we'd be listed as the 8th (there's the lobby, then a mezzanine level, then the first floor, then up).)
