Title meme

Snurched from [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63.

I do simple titles, I suppose. Sometimes I have to go through three or four iterations before I come up with something.

Anyhoo, here goes:

Moonwalk: Spike and Giles were caroming around the inside of my skull at the same time I was pondering the Apollo program. I wanted to see Spike more cultured under stress, showing his higher-class upbringings under the veneer of the hooligan, and I wanted to see Ripper peeking out from Giles' facade. And I recalled the question "what where you doing when..." So: the title came from the connecting event: Armstrong's one small step.

Mending Fences: Another obvious one. Not much to say about it.

The Carton: Again with the simplicity, but then, it was a pretty sparse fic. I didn't need a lot of words to say what I wanted to.

Sports Page: Nothing too insightful, as this was just a silly fic. But, you know, who looks for the Apocalypse on the sports page?

Under-Promotion: Named for a nasty sneaky move in chess, and a common misconception: when you promote a pawn, it doesn't always have to be a queen. The move is outlined in the fic, and with all the chess and game metaphors in Farscape, this seemed a natural.

Recalculation: Again with the obvious. It's basically what Jayne is doing throughout the fic.

Hook, Line, Sinker: Title may be a bit misleading. I just wanted a fishing theme.

The Scarab: Originally it was titled Mark of the Gods, but I decided on a title that would work with either fandom, and the villain - Kheper, the Scarab of Ra - seemed to be a good choice for a title character...

In Principle, In Practice: Another simple title, based on the structure of the story itself.

Justifiable: Like any jury on earth would convict me for what I did to Mary Sue? *snerk*

Deeper than MY list...

Hey, those are deeper than my reasons, especially the "Moonwalk" one. Mine usually boil down to: from a line in the fanfic, stole it from a song, just threw a title out, the most obvious title possible. (And one pre-determined journal entry.)

The name change on "Scarab" did make me lose track of the story for a while, but it WAS a better title than "Mark of the Gods" now that I look back on it.

And no, no jury in the WORLD would convict you for that one. ;)
