Serves me right for not checking the news, I suppose. Went out to do an errand or two, grab a bite of lunch. Went downtown via the Lexington Avenue express line; as sometimes happens, there was a struggling artist demonstrating his art and soliciting donations. This time, it was a writer of supposedly inspirational prose.

I gave him a dollar. He thanked me by putting me in a headlock and trying to open up my skull with his teeth. Thank goodness for the construction worker who was quick with the claw-hammer.

If anyone else had a similar experience, I haven't heard about it. The surface streets are calm enough, though police presence is a bit on the heavy side; if it gets bad here, Manhattan can be isolated easily enough. For now, I'm fairly safe, I suppose. Twenty-four stories up, with a security presence at the lobby.

Now all I've got to do is clean out the tooth-marks in my scalp.
