Found an explanation
I had trouble putting into words why it's so important for me to return home. I got lucky: Mad Miles put it better than I could.

Tomorrow, at this time, Lord willing and the mechanics stay on the job, I'll be airborne. In less than thirty-six hours, I should be home.
And from what I can see, not a minute too soon.
