Thoughts on tonight's Buffy...
Okay. Here's what we know.
The First hasn't been able to do much physically, except through its Bringers, but it has proven exceptionally good at the mind games. Buffy got a visitation from Joyce, who may or may not have been the First in disguise; Spike's been used as the First's puppet.
And before we forget, who was it who helped Robin Wood make the connection re: Spike in the first place?
The Enemy is trying to break the Scoobies, folks, and divide-and-conquer has got to be older than Machiavelli, but it's still pretty damned effective.
And how much do you want to bet that one of the First's backup plans for Spike was to get him killed in a way that would have shattered the trust between Buffy and Wood? Throwing Giles into the mix was probably just gravy, but imagine Buffy's reaction if Wood had succeeded, and cue the Last Trumpet while you're at it...
Oh, and as for non-spoiler stuff? UPN's promo department kinda bites. Because that next-week thing was made to look as though it's a new episode. And not-quite-savvy viewers are gonna be cheesed off when they realize it's a repeat.
Close entry.

Oh, yeah. As effective as it would have been to have a weapon inside the Summers house who Buffy seems to have blinders towards, the First can replace Spike if need be. So hey, either way the First comes out on top somehow.

You know, that's the one thing that has REALLY gotten on my nerves so far. Overall, despite his drive for vengeance, Wood seems like a relatively sharp guy. So I'm pretty ticked off that he hasn't even given lip service to the fact that the First, of all people, was the one who helped him make the connection.
He knew who it was, that was obvious when the First appeared as Nikki, so we can't say he didn't know. But beyond that, he hasn't even stopped to consider his initial source. I mean, I'd even prefer it if he considered it just so he could dismiss it or work around it to justify his actions.
Of course, perhaps he's trying NOT to consider it, trying to pretend the First had no hand in it if he's that obsessed with revenge... but still.
