Job hunt

Or, to put it bluntly, damn, damn, and goddamn.

Looking at the meager job listings I've got in front of me, what do I see?

Either postings for people who are still active students, or postings for people with several years' experience in the field. Nothing for someone who's trying to start from ground zero.

And the encouraging advice from the home front? "Why are you depressed? You should be motivated!"

Times like this, I don't know whether to be relieved or disappointed that I don't have a brick handy to pound against my skull.

Um, I'm going to go with relieved. I like your head undented. And I'm sorry you're having such a bitch of a time finding work -- I remember what it's like. :( Hang in there, babe -- you're entitled to be depressed, but not to the point of brick bashing.

I *so* hear ya, dude. It really is like beating your head against a brick wall sometimes.

"Why are you depressed? You should be motivated!"

I suddenly have the urge to pound the skull of whoever said that with a dictionary.

(Depressed doesn't equal unmotivated...)

What do they expect, for you to be cheerful 24-7 throughout this? (Although that does present with some ideas for terrifying your family members...)
