"Soon" is not helpful for scheduling.

Note to self:

The next time you get a project to do, and you ask what the deadline is, do not accept "soon" as an answer. Press to get a firm timeline for when the damn thing needs to be done. That way, you won't get surprises like learning that the project that is for "soon", and got shoved aside for tasks whose deadline was "now" or "by the end of today", suddenly has a deadline of "by noon tomorrow".

Especially when the only alternative is to tell Senior Partners that they'll have to wait until this job is done. Telling colleagues and/or superiors to pound sand =/= job stability.
