The weekend was ... well, it was. Funerals are hard, and tiring.
Back in Athens, it feels like the heat wave may have broken. Slightly. At any rate, I didn't have to run the air conditioners last night. And my surviving plants all appear to still be okay, so watering them twice a day seems to be working. Now if I could keep up with it, and freaking remember that they need water...
But I finally got around to finding cream-and-sugar bowls for when guests come and want to have coffee. (I don't drink it, so it's something I hadn't thought about, but anyone who comes by seems to be a coffee drinker, so that's the sort of thing that one needs.) My aunt had found a small ceramic sugar bowl, but once when I picked it up to put it up on a shelf, I fumbled it a bit ... and the lid, just sitting on the bowl without being secured in any way, slid off and bounced off the counter and shattered on the floor.
So last night, after work, I went hunting, and found a place that had kitchen-and-dining-room stuff. I found sugar bowls, including one that looked exactly like the one back home with the smashed cover. I picked it up to have a closer look, fumbled it a bit ... and the lid, just sitting on the bowl without being secured in any way, slid off and bounced off a couple of shelves and shattered on the floor.
*facepalm*
Thankfully, the storekeeper was understanding. Happens almost every day, she said, and do you need anything?
I need a sugar bowl, I said. But I want a metal sugar bowl.
Well, they had one. Stainless steel, and either glass or clear polycarbonate. But not flimsy, and not likely to drop or shatter due to butterfingers.
One can hope.
