Bureaucracy.
Went to the consulate today, to submit my paperwork to claim Greek citizenship and get the passport, so I might actually be able to stay in the same place and work for more than three months at a clip.
After some discussion, and juggling of papers, and signing of other papers, the guy at the desk had the entire packet ready to go.
Then he said:
"Now, this will probably take a year, maybe two years. If you're very lucky, there'll be a response in ten months."
Then, he gave his recommendation:
"I suggest you stay in the States until July 1, then go to Greece. That way, you can have a year there without problems, because they base their calculations of residency on the calendar year."
Eight months. Ten months. One year. Two years. Which will take me perilously close to ... forty. And I've only got so much sand in my hourglass.
*sigh* I wish the baseball season wasn't over.
