Talkin' baseball, Yankee baseball...
Yankees versus Devil Rays, in Tampa Bay.
Nick Johnson bats second, after a leadoff home run by Alfonso Soriano. The Rays pitcher gets a full count, and then on the next pitch, the home-plate umpire tells Johnson to take his base.
Manager Lou Piniella comes out of the Rays dugout to argue the call; the senior umpire overrules the guy at home plate, says it was a foul ball. Johnson goes back to home plate to face another pitch.
And hits that next pitch into the bleachers.
A small example of winning the battle and losing the war, I suppose.
Close entry.
