Insanities: today's rant
This particular job is going to drive me absolutely nuts. I have to keep reminding myself: I need to earn enough to pay the repair bill.
It's not just that the work goes from dead slow to overload in the space of three heartbeats, and then back. Partly, it's that I've been here a week and a half and the procedures I've been trying to learn make less sense to me than the Delta House pledge initiation rites.
Yesterday, I do filing - and as items go into one of the books, I mark them down on a sheet at the front of the binder. I find out the hard way that you're only supposed to write down actual changes to the protocols, or the procedures, or whatever. I still can't sort it all out.
Today, I file a communication in a book, and I remember: "aha, this isn't an amendment, it's not supposed to get marked down on that front sheet." Hah. Next thing I know, I'm being chewed out for not marking it down - because it's another type of book, and in that book, EVERYTHING gets marked down. Don't you remember? You should really check your notes from when you learned all of this.
So, I checked my notes. Didn't find anything there. Made a new note to add to my notes.
It's like I can't get a grip on the job. Bad enough if the procedures were just different - instead, they're practically contradictory.
Oh, cubicle-mate has a problem with the remote-control key fob for his Porsche Cayenne. The hey? I'm not making enough to legally touch a Porsche. Even a yuppie-tank model Porsche.
I think the big problem, though, is that in my plans, I was supposed to be chasing down actual lawyer jobs. Prosecutors, Legal Aid, that sort of thing. And I don't know if this place will let me pry away enough time to even place phone calls to those places.
