Thoughts on Angel: "Not Fade Away"

I tried to rig the DVR that came with my capture card. My computer responded with a resounding *crunch*.

Then I threw in a tape. The old VCR went to blue screen.

I did see most of it, though.

*sigh* Poor Wes. Sic transit gloria mundi. But for what it's worth, he didn't go down quietly, and he didn't go down alone. And I think that after, when Fred wound up for the right hook and Illyria emerged for the blow ... I like to think that some of Fred came back with her.

Even though I'd been spoiled, I only half believed them, and I wanted to see the execution. It's like the difference between reading about Randy Johnson's perfect game and actually seeing it.

And the ending? The last-line metaphor was a perfect summary of the quest for redemption - and after all, in the fable, St. George slew the dragon, didn't he?

I like to think of it this way - the story doesn't end with the last thing we see. Not like Butch and Sundance - not certain doom - but the uncertainty. For me, the question isn't so much if the Fang Gang will continue, but how.

Perhaps we'll find out someday. In the meantime, we can speculate.

That's what fanfic's for, right? Speculate about the parts of the story that didn't get told?

Close entry.
